Flowdeck
Our Story of Automating Complex Engineering Simulations
UX/UI Design
App Development
Summary
FlowDeck was already doing something incredible when they came to us: simulating fluid dynamics around complex objects.
The simulation science was already brilliant. What they needed was a modern way to deliver it, something automated, elegant, and ready for scale.
This is how we helped bridge their world-class simulation engine with a world-class user experience.
Project Overview
Client: FlowDeck
Industry: Engineering, Computational Fluid Dynamics
Services: Web Application Development, Cloud Automation, DevOps
Platforms: Web, AWS
Our Role: End-to-end design and engineering partner
What we built: Modern Web Interface backed by an Automated System
Problem: Turn a Manual Platform into an Accessible and Automated App
The Challenge
- Simulations required hours or days of compute time
- Manual AWS instance management slowed delivery
- Single-machine workflows limited scalability
- No customer-facing interface that matched the sophistication of the science.Their simulations aren’t light-weight tasks.
Some jobs take hours, and sometimes days, of continuous, resource-intensive computation.Up until that point, the FlowDeck team had to log in to AWS, manually spin up a single machine, run a single simulation and deliver results back to customers. It worked, but it didn’t reflect the sophistication of FlowDeck’s underlying science.
Our Approach
- User experience design for simulation submission
- Automated cloud infrastructure and job orchestration
- Dockerised, repeatable simulation environments
- Cost-efficient lifecycle management for compute resources
We focused on two things: automation and experience.
First, we built a clean, modern web interface that let users submit jobs with ease.
Then, behind the scenes, we engineered a fully automated system that took over everything that had previously required human intervention.
Now, when a user needs to run a simulation:
– A dedicated high-performance computation instance is automatically spun up.
– A Dockerised simulation environment ensures consistent accuracy.
– The job runs, monitors itself, and wraps up.
– The machine shuts itself down when finished.
All without anyone touching AWS.
Results and Outcomes
- Run simulations without manual cloud intervention
- Scale compute resources per job
- Offer customers a clean, modern web interface
- Reduce operational overhead and human error
- Prepare the platform for future growth and higher workloads
FlowDeck transformed from a powerful but manual engineering tool into an accessible, scalable simulation platform that feels effortless for users.
The real victory was helping their world-class simulation engine shine in a modern, automated delivery system, unlocking the next stage of their product evolution.
Let’s start making something awesome!
