You do not need to be a tech company to use AI well. The question is not "are we advanced enough", it is "do we have the right kind of work for it".
A quick readiness checklist
You are probably ready if you can say yes to most of these:
- Repetitive work. People spend hours on the same tasks each week.
- Rules plus judgement. The task follows patterns but still needs some interpretation, which is exactly where AI agents help.
- Enough volume. It happens often enough that saving time on it actually matters.
- Accessible data. The information lives somewhere reachable: Xero, MYOB, a CRM, a database or documents, rather than only in someone's head.
- A clear owner. Someone can define what "good" looks like and check the results.
Signs you should wait or prepare first
- The process changes constantly and has no stable pattern yet.
- The data is scattered, inconsistent or locked away with no way in.
- Nobody can say what a good outcome looks like.
These are fixable. Often the first project is simply tidying a process or connecting a system.
How to start
Start small. Pick one painful, repetitive workflow and run a tightly scoped pilot to prove value before scaling. You can usually add AI to your existing systems without replacing them. For a step-by-step, see how to start using AI, or tell us your workflow and we will tell you honestly whether AI is the right tool.
