Changing software partners feels risky, but leaving a failing one is usually riskier. With a clean handover you keep the work that's already been paid for.
You don't have to rebuild
Most of the time the existing code, data and infrastructure can carry forward. The job is a controlled transfer of ownership and knowledge, not a fresh start, which protects both your budget and your timeline.
Secure your assets first
Before anything else, make sure you actually control what you've paid for:
- Source code in a repository you own, with full history.
- Accounts and infrastructure: hosting, domains, app-store and cloud accounts in your name.
- Intellectual property assigned to you in writing, so ownership is unambiguous.
- Documentation and credentials handed over, not held hostage.
How a clean handover works
An incoming team reviews the codebase to understand it before promising a plan, then transitions with enough overlap that knowledge transfers rather than disappears. If your build was offshored or vibe-coded, our vibe code handover and project rescue services are built for exactly this.
